NEW WORK - Agricultural Trade Interests and Challenges

This year I started working for the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture based in Washington DC. One of our first projects together was designing the publication "Agricultural Trade Interests and Challenges at the WTO Ministerial Conference in Buenos Aires". The IICA team had already designed the cover of the publication so we proceed to create the interior layout of the publication. Take a look below to some of the content...

Design Insider Tips v01

To celebrate the beginning of autumn I’m releasing a fun new project called “Design Insider Tips” that I have created as a helpful resource for my clients.

Since many of my clients ask me about tips or help in design related topics, I decided to generate these educational guides. For the first edition I wanted to share some basic design knowledge and useful online design/communications resources like: image formats, resolutions, color mode, free fonts site, file sharing site, etc.

Download and share the first edition here

Volume 01: "Useful Resources" is now available for download :)

I'm now working on the next edition. Let me know if you have any suggested topics to include in the future! I hope you enjoy this one and find it useful in your daily job!

NEW WORK - Negocios Sostenibles

Since the beginning of the month of July I've been working with the team at the blog "Negocios Sostenibles" creating images for their blog posts. Even though it is not my first time helping one of the Inter-American Development Bank blogs, it's been a challenge creating different images for different topics each week. It's been fun a project and I'm learning a lot about sustainable business and innovations.

Below are some of the images we created so far. Now go and check out their blogposts! They are awesome and if you are from any country in Latin America or the Caribbean you will find them especially interesting.

The last few months I've been obsessed with Amazon Prime's show "Bosch". It is based on Michael Connelly's best-selling novels, Harry Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective. Besides finding the show totally fascinating the soundtrack it is really good. Great mix of jazz classics to listen while working or having dinner. If you haven't seen the show go and check it out, there are 3 seasons out! :) Can't wait for the next one!

Listen to the soundtrack in Spotify, right here or stream it below if you’d like. Enjoy!

NEW WORK - Coding Bootcamps

From the same team at the World Bank that I worked on "Creative Community Spaces" we created their latest publication "Coding Bootcamps. Building Future-Proof Skills through Rapid Skills Training". The publication analyzes 6 different coding bootcamps located around the world.

Here is a sneak peak of the publication...

NEW WORK - Creative Community Spaces

Last July I finished working on the layout and design of one of the World Bank's latest publications "Creative Community Spaces. Spaces That Are Transforming Cities into Innovation Hubs". Together with the team we worked for months putting together this publication that presents 13 creative community spaces around the world.

Here is an abstract and a preview of the publication...

Communities of entrepreneurs are creating positive impacts on local economies. When they establish new businesses and innovate across industries, they bring about economic growth and employment. Entrepreneurs are generally drawn to cities because of their available resources and networks, specifically access to knowledge and sector-specific needs, and the exchange of information that occurs when an entrepreneurial community is brought together. Central to these ecosystems are creative community spaces (CCSs)—a range of physical spaces that enable innovation by creating a convening point for a community of entrepreneurs and start-ups. CCSs serve to anchor entrepreneurial communities and influence the urban economic and physical landscape.

NEW WORK - Animation for PASET

For the last 3 years I've been working a lot on graphics and art direction for animations. I started as an in-house designer for a production company and have continued as a freelancer.

Recently, the PASET team at the World Bank contacted me requesting an animation for them. The animation gives an overview of the program, results and future expectations. I've been working for PASET for a while now so I'm pretty familiar with their corporate identity and loved seeing all the graphics in movement.

Here are some of the graphics I developed for them...

Now check out the complete animation...

NEW WORK - Elephant Energy Annual Report 2016

A few months ago I had the pleasure to work with the team at Elephant Energy an NGO based in Denver, Colorado. Elephant Energy is a renewable energy pioneer that operates primarily in the African country of Namibia.

We worked together designing their 2016 Annual Report. We decided to work only with the corporate colors and incorporate some photos of the projects they have been working on. The main goal for me was creating something fun and that transmits positivity when you look at it. I was really happy with the result. Thanks Elephant Energy for choosing me for this job!

Now take a look to part of the work we did together. You can also read the complete report at Issuu

playlist

I'm always in search of good music to listen while working. Sometimes I create my own playlists and other times I listen to my friends playlists or the ones Spotify recommends you.

This week my recommended playlist was created by Spotify and it is called "La Siesta" ("The Nap"). I love to listen it while designing a publication or something that requieres my full concentration. It is a perfect mix of mellow songs! You can listen directly in Spotify, right here. Or you can stream below if you’d like.

Creating blog posts images

During the last few months of 2016 I collaborated with the Social Protection and Health division at the Inter-American Development Bank designing images for their blogs "First Steps" and "Gente Saludable".
Here are some examples of the work we did together...

A couple of important things to consider when designing or selecting an image to go along with a blog post are:

  • Know your theme to be sure you are showing an adequate image.
  • If you are not sure about how appealing your photo is include some information in your image, like percentages or data (infographics are always a good tool).
  • Finally, take risks. Your readers are going to be more attracted to your post if your image is appealing to them or controversial.

Adios 2016!

2016 was a year full of interesting projects for me and the studio. I was happy to design many publications, infographics, animations and events for my clients. Some of which I still need to upload to the site.

Back in January, I worked together with the Pan American Health Organization - World Health Organization to develop a series of infographics about alcohol consumption. Infographics are one of my favorite things to design and these particular ones were definitely a challenge. I was also honored to work for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) vice-president to create some social media graphics for her.

Later, with the Water and Sanitation Initiative we created a social media campaign that consisted of animated GIFs that were well received by their followers. Some new clients were added to my client list such as Laser Technologies, Duco Experts and O'Keefe Communications among others.

Back in June, with the FONTAGRO initiative (IDB) we presented the Annual Report 2014-2015. A great way of showing how much work is involved in that initiative. We also designed for the second year in a row the OII and Sanctions System Annual Report cover design, also member of the IDB.

One event that involved a large amount of work was "Jobs in Uncertain Times" a great event put on by the team of Labor Markets at the IDB and celebrated in different countries of LAC. I had the pleasure of creating all the communication products needed. With a World Bank team I worked to create a fun slideshow presentation and several infographics for the event "Big Data for Labor Market Policy 2.0 in India".  The event was a big success and we will have more work coming in 2017 with the World Bank.

During the last few months of the year I collaborated with the Social Protection and Health division at the Inter-American Development bank (IDB) as a part time designer while the in-house designer was on a contract break. I collaborated with the communication team providing them with graphics for their sites, blogs and social media and doing the necessaries updates on the division site.

What comes next?

2017 is going to start with some fun animation projects. I should be sharing with you the results by the first months of the year. Also, a new website and studio identity is on the horizon so stay alert :)

Finally, I wanted to say thank you to all my wonderful clients, specially the ones at the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank. I hope I can continue collaborating on your projects during the new year to come. Happy New Year 2017!

October update

The last few weeks it have been all about producing materials for several events. From posters to agenda design, invitations, banners and slideshow presentations. It has been busy. I will update the site as soon as I can with some of these products.

Here there are a couple of photos that my great clients shared with me. I do not always have the chance to see how things actually look printed so it was very nice receiving these photos. Thank you all!
